Did I hear Christina call James a white guy?
I know the actor who plays him is half Mexican, but is James suppose to be?
In another episode when the police were chasing him and Teresa, they described him as white, or a possibly Hispanic male.
He has an accent that doesn't sound native of California. And it doesn't sound like he is from Mexico, either.
And on an even more trivial note, does he remind anyone else of Gael Garcia Bernal?

I'm curious about this because this show takes place and is filmed in Texas, so I don't get the California connection unless I missed something. Plus, the actor is British.

Hispanics come in all shades. Take a look at some of those baseball players from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic who have a lot of African ancestry.
I remember an affirmative action lawsuit in San Francisco from years ago. A man who had emigrated from Spain applied for an affirmative action program. The Hispanics screamed that being from Spain meant he was European, ergo, white.
Of course, Spain is just across the straits from Africa and for centuries has had invasions of Moors and others from North Africa.
I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else -

Good question. Brenda called him a gringo in the last episode when he threatened her crew at the motel. Did Theresa tell her he was a gringo or did she just call him that because of the absence of an accent?

Probably the latter.
I wish we knew more about his background. How he got involved 'in the business'
