It's kind of interesting to watch this movie and recall (among other things) the old anti-gay campaign of Florida beauty queen Anita Bryant. It makes me think of "Miss California" who "lost" the "Miss America" title because of her controversial views on gay marriage (I'm not sure WHY the other 48 contestants also lost). Then she was "persecuted" and lost her job for joining anti-gay marriage groups (of course, if she'd become a militant lesbian and joined ACT-UP, I'm sure THAT would have been perfectly alrightI'm positively dripping sarcasm here).
What was stupid about that thing is that beauty pageants have ALWAYS been lousy with these bigoted "Christians" like Bryant who think because America likes staring at their ass in swimsuit, they give a damn about their politics. "Miss California", at least, managed to pose in the nude (if completely inadvertently). That's one of the things I like much better about Italythe beauty contestants there go off to become "actresses" and porn stars and only THEN do they get involved in politics (I'm kidding, of course).
Seriously, though no one in America really gets "persecuted" for being a hot 20-year-old blonde girl. And it's kind of ironic to claim you're getting persecuted when you're out trying to persecute others. If you're against same-sex marriage, fine, just don't do it. -

Beauty pageants are a dead end, no girl gets serious about them if she's got the looks or smarts to really make something of herself. Look at Anita Bryant herself, the high point of her career was doing orange juice commercials, and she's one of the most visible and successful beauty queens this country ever had.
Why anyone takes the politics of pageant contestants seriously I don't know.-

Thanks to that Florida Orange Juice boycott, she became a company liability and they turned against her. Then her marriage and career went down the toilet and she filed for bankruptcy not too long ago.
Bryant claims she's sorry now for her homophobic tirades and bigotry. If you ask me,the only thing she regrets is her life is in shambles.
Her self-righteousness,lack of compassion, and unyielding harassment (thru lawmakers) proved her undoing in every way.
Ah,there is justice in the world!

And don't forget, Miss Ohio USA: Halle Berry. She was in fact runner-up in the Miss USA pageant.
But back on topic. Anita Bryant was a clueless bitch and I do wonder if she truly regrets her tirades and her campaign against gays back then. Whatever the case, she's a nobody now. It's true folks, if you get any kind of celebrity spotlightNEVEREVER bash the gays. We might not be prominent on the screen but we definitely work behind the scenes and we ARE your audience. Bash us and you'll get no where fast.

Anita Bryant is living a long and happy life.
Unlike most Homosexual men, who numb themselves with drugs and alcohol and often don't live to see their 50th birthday.
Ah yes. But it's the
homosexuals
who are intolerant not you. I mean, I have it on your own authority that you don't
generalize
.
Right?

"Anita Bryant is living a long and happy life."
She's only in her early 70's. By today's standards that's not terribly long.
If by happy, you obviously are unaware of her divorce, multiple bankrupcies, and nervous breakdown.
"Unlike most Homosexual men, who numb themselves with drugs and alcohol and often don't live to see their 50th birthday."
And you base this on absolutely nothing other then your personal bigotry.
Yes many gay men do those things, but it's largely due to trying to cope with rejection from family, friends, and society.
As for dying before 50, you do understand how high the suicide rates are for glbt persons I hope. Again, it's for the same reasons. -

Did anyone else notice that she says the "normal majority" instead. I thought she was probably talking about Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority, but I'm not sure if they were around then.
