I was not thrilled by the first two episodes which were basically identical as they both contained the following:
- Filmed in a single location in a stately mansion house which made it fairly boring.
- The murder occurred in a closed group which limited the number of suspects and created a continual round of everyone looking at everyone else suspiciously.
- Insp. Lynley found that an old friend was part of the group and possibly a suspect. Lots of angst.
- Each episode concluded with a foot chase which served to unveil the perpetrator.
- In each episode, they had lots of time for character development and storyline development that they never took advantage of.
And they concluded one episode with lines stolen straight out of Inspector Lewis. They're discussing retirement. She muses, "If you retire, I have to retire." He says, "Why?" And so she said, "There's no one else who understands me." Lewis and Hathaway said it first.
