Better Plans

So its been a while and Ive not been on the board since it finished. I was wondering if anybody has come up with any better narratives to explain the actions of 2 of my favourite characters.
- Jon's attack on Winterfell. They kept bigging this up and Sansa kept going on about Ramsay's cunning. I thought Jon was going to have an epic battle plan. Something like Beastmaster with the tar or Spartacus with the pit. Perhaps stakes that could be raised up when the cavalry are about to hit. I also thought he'd use the giant wisely and maybe send a small force through the catacombs to take Winterfell during the fight. Instead, he runs in a straight line like an idiot.
- Arya getting stabbed after parading like a tourist. WTF?
So has anybody got any explanations for their actions where they dont come out looking like chumps? Or lucky?

Jon Snow is being presented as the unwilling leader, as the humble one who is pushed to the top by the people in a world where intelligence is seen as a root of evil. He is the hero of fools who yearn to get even but in a nice way.
Arya is the supergirl with unexplained powers, the female runaway ninja assassin who incarnates teenage rebellion and wins in spite of anything. She has another type of fans.
They both look the way you saw them but their fans were happy and are still buying silly merchandise to this day. That's what the writers wanted.
Long may she reign

Honestly, both are pretty unexplainable. Jon's half brother (as he thought) dies, and he decides to risk everything? Just makes no sense. Also, I agree.Jon and Sansa should have known about some passages into Winterfell.
Arya.well.there is a reason everybody hates that episode. She walks around like she isn't being hunted by the best trained assassins in the world WHO CAN CHANGE THEIR FACES!
Both feel very forced and stupid to make the plot move in a dramatic way. I hope in the books the whole "the north remembers" comes into play and Ramsey's men turn on him during the fight.
