The opening episode of Taboo lived up to my expectations.
Usually when I have no other option than to watch a series with commercials, I fall asleep. Not with Hardy.
Taboo is cast by Nick Gold who also assembled the actors for Got. Roger Ashton - Griffiths (Mace Tyrell) shows up at the first meeting between Delaney and the EIC. Jonathan Pryce goes from being a religious hardliner to an oily short tempered opportunist. The real treasure of this series could be Oona Chaplin.
She sparkled from the moment of her startled reaction of the appearance of her stepbrother onward. She has a real presence and combustible chemistry with Hardy. Possibly the best leading lady he's worked with. She was good as Robb Stark's dream wife Talise, but only men would have noticed her. In Taboo she's working at a higher level. Her resentful husband wants James Delaney (Hardy)killed, so it's almost a given that Hardy is going to go through like shirt through a goose. But are matters going to get incestuous?

IMHO, Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon are the most exciting actors of their generation. Too bad Phillip Seymour Hoffman packed it in, Shannon made a commitment to his next directorial project.

I feel like Tom Hardy would have been a far superior Euron Greyjoy than the bland one we have now

            Possibly.
He did declare her love for her. What Oona does in the remaining episodes will determine if the show stay in the 9.0 range on IMDB.
Are you referring to Theon Grayjoy? IMHO the actor playing him is doing great with a difficult role. It's not a showpiece character like Ramsey Bolton.

Oona did well with the poor material handed to her. Like Kit, Tom is way too short to be a believable threat, I had to laugh every time when he tried to be scary, it was too cute.

                Nobody's perfect.
If Phillip Seymour Hoffman had not joined the choir invisible, we would have seen Hardy and the 6' 4" Michael Shannon as brothers.
Btw, I've been streaming Boardwalk Empire. Without Shannon it would be almost unwatchable.
