I think it was in 305 No Mas Hank says to Gomez about a guy in an RV park, "don't worry, he's VFW." That makes me wonder if Hank ever served in the military. Did Hank have a law degree as well? I knew someone who was an FBI agent who had a law degree.

I think was a tough bastard. Look how he handled those two guys in the bar single handedly. He knew how to throw down. Not to mention surviving the twins attack, getting shot multiple times and still managing to kill one of them and fatally injure the other when he was the one that was unarmed when they attacked him.
Imo dude was tougher than nails. -

too much of a pussy to serve
sure he was a pussy
Took down two of the most notorious cartell hitmen and come close to put them all in jail.
Stared down a barrel and not even begged a second, yeah such a pussy.
but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry. -

Hank could've been ex-military. Judging by his reactions to intensely violent situations in the show, though, I'd wager he was never in any combat situations.
A Superman without trunks isn't worth watching or reading about.
