So, no wars, no need to justify (because your examples do that for you), just a list of elements that make this film great.
For those lovers of JW, the ones with his "fingerprints" all over them!
And it's all just our own opinions so contribute in comfort and without fear of criticism.
How many do you think we can come up with?!

    1. JW's incredible ability to film a fight sequence (IMO understanding placement of cameras) you can actually follow.
    2. FX in service of the story NOT vice-versa.
    3. Character development incorporated into the story.
    4. Using his characters to inject humor that actually works.
    5. Letting his actors really inhabit their character and the actors have a say in how to do it.
    6. The unexpectedly brilliant cameo appearances.
    7. His obvious gleeful delight in "playing" in the worlds he creates (because it makes all of us want to do it too!).
OK, I ran rather too lengthy on that just couldn't stop myself My BAD!
      YOUR TURN!

      All true.
All of that comes together and delivers a perfect film. What's amazing is that the first two acts alone were so good that they could have ended the movie there and it still would be considered on of the best. The entire conclusion and third act is cinema gold and could stand on it's own. Better than most blockbuster entire movies.
