Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mad Men

Well, so IMdB has come to the conclusion that we are not having a positive experience by posting and reading this message board. Wonder how they came to that conclusion? Because there are some rude people who attack other people? Well, I have been the subject of some of the rude remarks, but I'm a tough old broad and I can take it. And the enjoyment I've had on this board far outweigh the remarks of the trollers. I think something is going on here that makes me uncomfortable. I have heard (on NPR) that both Twitter and Facebook are taking action against abusive posters. Sorry friends, but I fear that this is a cover up for limitation of free speech. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want Big Brother deciding who can post on message boards and social sites.

Free speech protects you from persecution from the government. It has nothing to do with what Twitter, Facebook or IMDb do with their social media platforms and forums.

So you are assuming that the government does not have a hand in this?

Why would the government shut down IMDB message boards again?

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

No, I don't think the government shut down IMDB message board. However, these are turbulent times and people are less tolerant of the views of others.

I don't buy IMBd's stated reason for killing the forums, and it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth about both IMDb and Amazon, which will remain. But I also don't think this has anything to do with the government. It's about corporate greed, nothing more, nothing less.

I can see where you're coming from. With others, and seemingly you, I don't necessarily think it's the government, as they likely have bigger fish to fry. But it does seem like various "freedom of speech" things are becoming a bit more limited. Of course, if it is the government, they'd be wanting and able to make it look like it wasn't.

just look up movies these days, tonight went to the site of an actor and the thread titles were all so vile I didnt dare open any of them, thought what the HECK is going on here?! and only after that saw the were shutting down message.
shame but not having looked at much in a while the downward trend is very obvious. too bad, it was an easy source of information, to be taken with a grain of salt, but still interesting to see other opinions, when they werent hateful.

Definitely too bad. I barely ever saw any rude posters on this board . Now The Walkingn Dead board that's a different story haha
