When Abby pulled that string of money out of his jacket, I tried to count the number of packets. They went by so fast, I couldn't do it. I tried freeze frame, but no luck.
Also, what were the "500" bills? Euros, or ? I could not read any more details through the plastic bags. Any ideas ?

NO clue, but it had to be A LOT for all the trouble the Russian detective went though to track him down; especially when he didn't give a damn about the relative value of the doll made of heroin.

But, why did he have the money? Why did he also have drugs? Usually, a mule would have one or the other, right? My main question is Why Carlos had a bad guy's money?

He double crossed the smuggler on the ship from Japan, taking the drugs and keeping the money. Abby was definitely in on it and was possibly the mastermind as Carlos had not previously been into drug smuggling. When she told the other girl about the house on the lake, which would be expensive, she looked away and said she was working on it.
