      I believe it was Season 4. I certainly remember in between the airing of Seasons 4 & 5 is when it was revealed, because some dipsh!ts from a fashion show were making fun of the hat he wore during the Golden Globes, then had to eat their words and apologize when his cancer was revealed.

        Pretty sure tornado2449 is right.
        Hall did a Q&A with Lithgow that Showtime aired immediately after the Season 4 finale and you could see his hair was just starting to come back in.

          Well I'm thrilled that he ended up alright and we didn't lose him. That would surely have been tragic!

            It was diagnosed during production of season 4, treated during the S4 Hiatus and in remission at the start of season 5
