I am really sad to see the boards go. I haven't really been active in the last 5 years, but I was happy they were still here.
One thing I can say is that I do watch alot of black film and I liked to use the boards to share observations and ideas. However, the intellectual sewage was pretty overwhelming. Though I support people's right to express their ideas, it came to a point for me that I didn't want to really be a part of it.
Like, it was just discouraging going to a board for any black movie and seeing all the "Why is there a black BET, shouldn't there be a White WET?" And Im like, who cares? Lets talk about the movie!
My theory has been that the board was overrun by activists who felt powerless to do anything but live the basic 9-5 life while the world proceeds with or without them. And I know that can be a crappy feeling. Wake up, work, pay bills, lunch, go home, TV, bed (then repeat). Maybe this became their outlet to change the world despite the meaningless, maybe this was just a way to mess with people, maybe they really thought they were doing something, I dunno. You give these people feedback, and either they get nasty, or try report your post even if you said nothing bad.
I got tired to going back and forth so I said screw it. Looks like the whole thing blow up in everybody's face. But, I am sad I can't share ideas about movies anymore. Oh well.
