Did I like this film? Yes. Was it inspirational? Yes. Was it dramatic? Sure. Did it in anyway connect to the REALISM of professional boxing? NO!
In this film both Rocky and Sly Stallone are about 60 years old. Did Sly look amazing for 60? Hell yeah.
While not a boxer myself, I've been a fan since watching with my dad before I was old enough for school. So here are some facts to consider"
The oldest boxer to win a Heavyweight crown was George Forman at 49! And that's considered phenomenal! Mohammed Ali, often considered the world's greatest heavyweight, LOST his last ever fight to Trevor Berbick, when Ali was not quite 40!
Tua vs Ibeabuchi set a CompuBox record for most combined punches thrown in a heavyweight fight: 1,730. Ibeabuchi also set the individual record by throwing 975 punches and averaging 81 per round.
The heavyweight average is in match is around 50.
And in this fight, "Both threw bombs and neither took a backward step all night." - How many punches were thrown and landed in Rocky Balboa's fight?!?!
In street fighting, most fights actually last about 30 seconds (look this up if you don't believe it) which is what separates thugs, brawlers and big-mouths from "professionals." Going ten rounds, in itself, is awesome; one has to be incredibly, world class strong. But going ten rounds and exchanging a thousand punches, at 60-years of age, is simply PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE for any human being that has every lived.
So, if "Rocky Balboa" was supposed to be a "fantasy" with a "super hero," then okay. But a "drama" implies some connection to real life. I simply could not "suspend disbelief" watching the impossible boxing match in this film.
Sorry, I'm not trying to ruin anything for anyone, just being informative and wondering if anyone else was bothered by this. - Your reasonable thoughts are welcome. Just please don't bother to respond with some silly cliche like "it's fiction, dude."
- Thanks for your time. -

I think the final fight was there to be more symbolic than realistic. Stallone was 59 during the filming and while Rocky's age in the film is never given the press conference scene does confirm that he's supposed to be somewhere in his 50s.
