She not only chewed the scenery, she swallowed it, spat it out, then stomped on it a cupla' times just to make sure the point wasn't lost.

Agreed. She has a great voice, but besides that her performance was unremarkable at best. It's sort of infuriating that she won over the other nominees that year, let's review them:

      1. Cate Blanchett- Notes on a Scandal
      2. Abigail Breslin- Little Miss Sunshine
      3. Rinko Kikuchi- Babel
      4. Adrianna Barazza- Babel
Every single one of these actresses gave a better performance, even the 10 year old Abigail Breslin. I think Rinko Kikuchi was particularly deserving of the honor. But I think, as the poster above me said, the Academy likes to spread the wealth, and a lot of members vote based on what studio they are loyal to. If I remember it accurately, there was a lot of buzz around Hudson's performance, and she won nearly all the other critic' and guild awards that year. That's what particularly irritates me the most. I think there is a strong possibility that these smaller critic committee's are being paid by studios to vote for a particular performer, so that they build enough pre-cursor award season momentum to become the frontrunner to win the Academy Award. Movie makers think that if viewers hear their film wins an Academy Award, they're more likely to see it. It's really the best explanation to me in regards to Jennifer Hudson winning an Academy Award. Her acting is so amateurish here. This was, along with Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side, the worst performances to win an Oscar in the past 10 years.

Well, everytime I see Jennifer Hudson in this movie, I cry. She is amazing in this role. This is one of the most brilliant breakout performances in recent years. Her singing and acting were perfect. Nothing about her is bhah.

Yeah I don't know WTH was with the absurd amount of hype this movie had either. Honestly she didn't even have the best musical number of the movie, and CERTAINLY her acting was an amateurish first-timer performance coming from a script that wouldn't require her to or be ABLE to bring much out of it anyways. Not to begrudge her or anything, that WAS her first film role so I didn't expect her to be Meryl Streep or anything, and she did what she could with a meh script. But a Best Actress of 2006 award? Hell no, she shouldn't have even been nominated. Hell I'd even nominate BEYONCE before her (but again, really no one in this movie should have gotten nominated, not even Eddie Murphy).

The most least deserving oscar win should go to:
Particia arquette for Boyhood. Worst performence ever
