In season 1 Lynette is told that ADD medication has the opposite effect on someone without ADD. Does anyone know if this is true? Purely out of curiosity.

It's true.
If you don't have ADD then the chemicals will react differently. It's well-known that some college/university students abuse the ADD medication when cramming for exams.
And it just doesn't go for ADD, any medication prescribed for a certain disorder/illness will react differently if you don't have said disorder/illness. -

It basically acts as speed so Lynette's actions were very on par with reality lol.
*Sweaty demeanor.
*Rocking Penny's Walker back and fowarth maniacally lol.
*Dancing around in the bear costume she sewed
*Jacking more from someone's medicine cabinet.
This was the first DH storyline/era I watched. Good times.

Amphetamines are incredibly powerful psychotropic medications.
I do not believe in ADD/ADHD, that is a symptom, not a syndrome (cluster of symptoms). Being unable to sit still and pay attention is perfectly normal for kids. The ones that are more destructive usually grow up with bipolar disorder or compulsive/addictive personalities. Could it have something to do with the American idea of:
"Can't focus, huh? Well here's your first 8-ball, snort at will".
Ritalin and Adderall are just prescription cocaine and meth. They're both NDRI, and strong dopamine antagonists. Highly addictive, ruin so many lives. Unlike cocaine or meth, the withdrawal symptoms will be much worse. That wasn't covered in episode 9, but these CNS stimulants are no joke and I'm glad the show covered it. Poignantly. There are exhausted and bored Housewives popping benzodiazepines, stimulants, tranquilizers, antidepressants and more. It's a real epidemic.
I coin the term 'Ativan Housewives' from what I would see when I was living in the suburbs and attended PTA meetings. No, they weren't slurring their words, but they were doped up. And all of them had a bottle of Lorazepam in their purse, maybe also with some Soma, Valium, Atarax, Klonopin, Xanax, Ambien the list continues.

No they aren't addictive, that is the problem. Their psychoactive reaction to the brain isn't like cocaine or meth, that again is the problem.
Rather than prescribing the average overactive kid a dose of ADHD medication, it would probably be more rewarding to the parents and the child to prescribe a nice heavy dose of valium for the mom. -

That's about the physical addiction, citing a lack of withdrawal symptoms. Yes, amphetamines are different than cocaine and meth, but only in small ways.
Hah, the Valium bit is a chuckle because benzodiazepines can mess you up more than a lot of drugs. The "mom" needs better coping strategies, not a highly addictive pill that can ruinher life.
