It got so formulaic in the last 3 or 4 seasons, they focused too much on the jokes and sitcomish writing that it entered a totally different territory. They never really explored some interesting characters because they had to accomodate the ladies.

The show was finished after the first season. I remember being completely wowed by the entire premise, and the clever way with which they approached and pulled it off. Very satirical, but also a commentary on modern women of the times (2003/4). I said it back then, and I'll say it now, it peaked too early, and was too good for itself. Had nowhere to go but down, and with season 2, that's exactly what it did.
The last few seasons were indeed, beating a dead horse. It's sad that the first season was never matched by the rest of the series.
When will you ever learn, this feeling is all you can discern?
