This is one of my pet peeves inacurrate or incomplete dubbing in movies.
In the scene at the cabin where they discuss Hardenberg's salary, he first tells them he makes about $200,000 a year, "more or less". In reply, according to the dubbing, Jule says "that's what I read" in a newspaper, which sounds like she is agreeing with him.
But what she actually says in reply to his answer in German is that she read in the newspaper that he makes 3.4 million euros a year. So she is not agreeing at al.
This is an important difference, because it sets up that Hardenberg is a huge liar important for the rest of the movie.
It also makes Jan's reply to Jule's answer make sense. He plays on Hardenberg's "more or less" phrase, noting that 3.4 million is quite a bit more than 200k.
Usually when I notice dubbing mistakes this in German movies it is something trivial, but this one was something meaningful.

      Good point.
How about the word 'vorbei', isn't it 'over', instead of 'numbered'? 'Numbered' means there's something left, 'vorbei' is totally gone, right?

Yeah, exactly, it's things like that why can't they just get it right?!

I meant, of course, a subtitle mistake, not dubbing, that's why I noticed the difference.
Kind of ironic that I made a mistake while pointing out a mistake.
I still hate bad subtitle work.

I just watched it subtitled and it didn't have that mistake. I clearly understood that he made a huge lie about his salary.

Yeh, I just watched it and there definitely wasn't a mistake. Perhaps it depends on the way you read it, like beginning of one sentence or end of another?

Wow thanks for that, I didn't even notice and I think I should at least still remember the numbers! I didn't catch that that guy was a huge liar at all.

Yes, and later when Peter and Hardenberg are talking, Peter says something like "you could do a lot with 3 million," which doesn't make sense if we think he only makes 200,000. Thanks for pointing out this subtitling error!

Right I forgot to include that later reference.
These mistakes are pretty common, pisses me off.

Hi, just curious to see find out what channel this was on if you can remember as I have been looking to watch / buy this film since before Christmas and I didn't see it listed as being on TV in December.
I saw it yesterday though, it was on Film4 2 days ago so I recorded it.
                        Great film.
                        Many Thanks.

How about not being lazy and using subtitles?
