His talentless SNL friends weren't anywhere to be seen, so Sandler for a change went with more sophisticated cast such as Christopher Walken (he's like the white version of Morgan Freeman), Henry Wrinkler (he's been in other Sandler flicks), Kate Beckinsale and the comical guy ~ Terry Crews (no stranger to Sandler films either but even though they tend to be terrible he makes it worth it).
All in all I liked the movie and it has replay value unlike his other works of "art".

      Same here.
This is the last real film imo (well maybe the Disney one he did with Brand was okay,) but this is the last real pure Sandler movie before he went on autopilot and got lazy and lost his spark.
He seemed to have a lot of reason to make it good and it seemed he enjoyed himself and gave it all for the drama scenes. Plus having quality actors like Walken and Beckensale in it helped.

Actually he did sprinkle a fair amount of his friends in it; Rob Schneider, Nick Swardson, Rachel Dracth, Terry Crews, Jonah Hill, director Frank Coraci and Blake Clark in a deleted scene. But I agree this is probably the best Sandler film combining comedy and drama not starring Drew Barrymore.
It did have a good message about career men disappointing the wrong people and always letting work win over family. For the most part the humour was tasteful (although I could have done without him farting in Hasslehoffs face). And it left a good message at the end.

Farting would have been the nicest thing I did to my boss.
