I just rewatched this movie last night and I don't understand why Madeline's mother brutally murdered Elizabeth Short with the gardener. I know that there's an extremely convoluted plotline with Madeline being the illegitimate child of the gardener but regardless it doesn't explain why they would not only kill Elizabeth Short, but cut her in half, drain her blood, remove her organs and disfigure her face. Its ridiculous that a character like Madeline's mother who seemed to just be nothing more than a snobby, rich housewife is supposed to be capable of committing one of the most vicious murders in the last 100 years. And her motive was what? Jealously?
Even if she was capable of doing such a horrific murder how would she possibly have the know how to drain a body of all the blood, cut it in half and remove the organs? All they showed in the movie was a bloody mattress in some shed, draining ALL the blood from someone's body would be much messier and require a lot more time and effort. (ex. The Icetruck Killer in Dexter). The ending of this movie completely ruins everything that came before it, not only does it make zero sense, but its also just impossible and ridiculous. Does anyone else feel the same way? -

I'm on my break, so I can answer this question a little, but it won't be very thorough. I'll try to, then re-edit my post later and answer more thoroughly later on.
This will be spoiler-barred, but as far as motive
One the mother Ramona Lindscott was crazy and Georgie Tilden, her illicit lover, real father of Madeleine, and accomplice in the murder, was probably also crazy.
Part of it was because Georgie's attraction to Elizabeth, who looks like Madeleine (well, I don't know about in the movie how much Hilary Swank really looked to Mia Kirschner) it must have sickened Ramona, because Georgie's attracted and going on a date with someone who looks like his daughter.
The Victor Hugo movie and book The Man Who Laughs also ties into things between Ramona and Georgie, not just because Georgie enjoyed both, but because of for example how similar Georgie was to Gwynneplaine (haven't read or seen this book or movie.) Gwnneplaine's face was scarred ear to ear, Georgie was scarred by Ramona's husband Emmett.
So it must've been something like that. It's like what Ramona say: "It was the cruelest joke of all." and as far as the tortures, the mouth scar, like The Man Who Laughs, the face carving, and since Georgie's father was apparently a famous surgeon, maybe Georgie knew some medical knowledge from his father or on his own and knew how to drain bodies and take out organs in a surgical manner.
I hope I explained it a little and you get it a little. post back on this thread, snakej32, and let me know! Also anyone else, if I was wrong on some info or others have questions post and ask or correct me.
