What did Brian's dad know?

In the scene where Brian yells at his dad to tell him what happened, and his dad says "sorry, I can't help you" does that indicate that his dad really has no information to give Brian, or that he knows something about what happened but he's unwilling to tell Brian what he knows?

Brian's dad knew what happened but did not want to go into it I'm sure. From the film it seemed like he was a absentee father and
truly not there for his family!

I disagree. I truly think Brian's parents had no clue. It's only coincidence his dad happened to also be an @$$hole.

His parents were unaware of what happened, though his father WAS absentee.
