    In the movie, the news anchor is stated as saying that Liev's character refused the officers commission that he was entitled to.
    I was wondering, what would give him that entitlement?
    Is it because he's a senator's son? I mean normally you need a University degree and then go through a rigorous vetting process to see if you are suitable.

      I think he had a degree and maybe ROTC or whatever.

        I'm sure he was a college graduate, but a journalist didn't necessarily know the leadership experience expected of an officer candidate

          Most civilian colleges don't offer a Military Science major. And even with no ROTC, a college graduate can enlist for OCS
