Makes zero sense compared to the original

If “Manchurian Global” already controls every politician and policy-maker through corporate lobbying and asset management, then what is the point of going to the trouble of putting some micro-chipped robot in the Oval Office. What could they possibly achieve that they cannot already do, and what difference does it make if current president is a shareholder in the company anyway? There is absolutely zero at stake compared to the original of a Communist takeover.
The filmmakers missed a chance for this equity fund to instead be financing some extremist Middle Eastern group or regime (like it seemed the plot was hinting at) that wanted to install a puppet in the White House and destroy or take over the United States from within.
Also, Marco reprogramming Shaw was more clear in the original with using the entire Queen of Hearts deck to reboot his programming. Although I suppose it could be argued in the remake that Marco going to the German guy and getting the electro shock therapy basically rebooted his own programming and allowed him to assassinate Eleanor and Raymond instead, but that was never explained.
