Contrary to what some posters claim on here because I go against their bubble, I can't speak for Republicans, Cons, or the right but as a Democrat I can tell you the many things that are turning me off to my own party and making me feel like my party has left me.
I have only got this feeling the past couple of years. But the vibe I get anymore is that the Democratic Party only wants to represent minorities, special interest groups, and rich elite celebrities. I get the vibe they don't give a sh!t about anyone else. This was illustrated in a piece Samantha Bee's show did last summer where they went to the Democratic Convention and interviewed the people there. You had some guy going on about his degree in comparative Franco-Chinese literature, another guy going on about his expensive clothes, and an elected representative rolling her eyes about when she has to talk to her own white constituents and deal with their issues.
They need to start representing white working and middle class people again and doing a better job reaching out to them. I am not saying that the Republican party represents them but obviously many of these people went over to that side and voted Republican because they feel the Dems don't represent them. Also, I think many things that Dems do now turns many people off and drives them to vote for the other party. Which brings me to my next points.
Secondly, some of the things that Bill Maher has pointed out on his show. Like stop being offended by everything and everyone. I also liked when he said a few months back, "What do you want me to do cut off my d!ck and check my privilege?" You can't keep telling a large group of the population that they are evil and bad and they need to die out and go away and their time is over. That will just drive people to the other side.
Third, I think a lot of people are tired and disturbed at the protests in the streets that turn into riots.
Fourth, blind support of groups that sound good on paper or in their mission statement but then do something completely different and offensive or illegal in practice out on the street. Black Lives Matter is a perfect example. People all the time (especially online and I'm sure someone will do this in response to me below) try to defend BLM and say read what their web site says it's all good. But then ignore the multitude of video evidence of their supporters advocating murder and violence and also committing violent hate crimes. Or at meetings telling reporters and others who are not of African decent they must leave and throwing them out.
I also think the constant media and celebrity bombardment of liberal causes or bias is turning people off. You pretty much can't watch, read, listen to, etc. anything today without hearing some sort of political message and it is 99% of the time left leaning. But I have noticed a backlash against this. Ghostbusters and Birth of a Nation both flopped hard last year. NFL ratings were down and many people attributed this to Colin Kaepernick's protest. I actually had some people tell me personally they were not going to watch the NFL this year just because of him. These were not Republicans or right-wing people either.
The Democrats need to get back to representing us all and making the country a more perfect union. And the Republicans can go back to representing only rich azzholes and pretending to make the government smaller while really making it bigger. But unfortunately I feel that people are just getting pulled either further left and further right. Leaving many people like me feeling not represented by anyone.
I am starting to wondering if in the near future if America will just be so large and have so many different people, groups, and interests with nothing shared that it will just become ungovernable? -

Nothing. I fundamentally disagree with everything in, and about, the Democratic platform now. As is, I find the party offensive in and of itself. They would need to do a radical overhaul that purged too many aspects of itself, which wouldn't even be realistic.
So despite my being a registered Democrat, I highly doubt that I'll ever vote for that party again.
