I sometimes wonder what the movie would've been like if Paul Newman had played Einer and Redford had played Mitch. IMO I think it would've been better. Especially the cranky banter between the two. Anyone else share my opinion?

josh lucas played a young paul newman in the tv show 'Empire Falls'
he looks ,even sounded like him

Interesting idea. I imagine there were a whole host of better castings for various films that never happened due to other committments and deaths.

Redford ain't bad, but I rue the fact that Steve McQueen, instead of Robert Redford, did not play the Sundance Kid (as the producers originally intended). Butch Cassidy would have been so much better with the Newman/McQueen chemistry at work.
