I have never seen a movie where so much car maintenance was required!
And all those driving mistakes, asleep at the wheel, bumping the gearshift into drive..
It started when Jean's car broke down at the very beginning?
Redford is working on his car several times!
Do they allow child labor in Wyoming because he begins teaching her at age 11 !!
The boyfriend's car malfunctions at exactly the wrong instant!
Don't they have any decent car mechanics in Wyoming ???
I imagine the book-author has been traumatized by cars, over and over and over again! -

As someone who lived in Pinedale, Wyoming for nearly a decade- when you live on a ranch, you do your share- and you learn to work on cars and drive way earlier than in the city. And there are a lot of beep cars in Wyoming, and you do work on them yourself, a lot. The cost of living is low but mechanics are expensive- you only use them when you have to.
The boyfriend wasn't from Wyoming, and he was a creep- he deserved his car to malfunction right at that moment.
