Am I to assume that the events of these two movies never took place in this movie or does the events of this immediately follow Superman IV, did Superman leave to find Krypton after he fought Nuclear Man?
Thanks in advance -

Wow, very interesting thanks so much for your kind detailed reply
That all makes perfect sense and very cool to know
I'm going to pretend that it follows Superman IV and it is Superman V I think that is way cooler as the Clark v Superman scene in III is excellent and I don't like omitting that from the tale
Furthermore I hate the new Man of Steel/Batman/Justice League idea compared to Christopher Reeves portrayal they are simply awful
Thanks again -

You can't pretend and make up delusions; this film is an homage to Richard Donner, who directed Superman: The Movie and 75% of the original cut for Superman II, and it is only those two films that Bryan Singer (director of Superman Returns) is paying tribute to.
III & IV don't exist in this loose continuity. -

They can easily exist in your 'head canon' if you're creative enough. If you assume that the events of Superman III and IV happened immediately after the events of Superman II, it can all add up. It just takes some imagination.
