Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Ju-on: The Curse

This is the only thing I didn't get in this movie. It was clear that both Kayako and Toshio had memories of Kobayashi after their death.
I can understand if Kayako wanted to haunt him, but why kill him?
The way she mentioned his name, it seemed like she still had feelings for him.
Yet in "Ju-On: The Grudge" she didn't kill Rika, who was a complete stranger.

You must understand that Kayako, the ghost, has lost all sense of reasoning. She is the vengeful ghost wrongly accused of adultery and Kobayashi was one reason for this accusation. Everyone associated with the house is tainted.
I think Rika was also "absorbed" by Kayako.

I don't think Kayako really had control over herself anymore. I think her spirit was trapped in the curse. She was as much a victim as her victims were. Maybe even more so.
No disrespect intended, sir, but shove it up your ass!
