Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Order

    greenj_75 — 16 years ago(August 22, 2009 10:43 PM)

I really don't understand any negativity towards it on these boards. However, since the internet gives equal voice to every retarded monkey with a keyboard (myself included), I don't much care either. If only you needed thumbs to operate a computer
Anyway, I thought this movie was highly underrated when it was out in cinemas. An interesting story, characters and visuals. I find it hard pick at any real flaws in this film. That's not to say it will change your life, just that it makes a compelling promise to the audience in the beginning and delivers it in full by the end. Thoroughly entertaining.

I really like the movie, and I too think it was underrated. I think a lot of people
might have been upset because of the religious part in the movie(
      the black pope,sin eater
      a priest killing people
, and some people didn't like the ending
      Alex becoming a sin eater
. I love the twist at the end.

I like the Order too. I thought the film is great with Heath's performance as a plus. There is a lot of character development on Alex. It was very good. It leaves a lot to think of.

I just rewatched the movie and it was even better than I remembered.
I remembered it as being good, this time around I thought it was actually really good. Perfect even.
I have never understood why people hate it so much.

            Perfect???
And for those asking what is wrong with this filmjust think of the scene where Ledger has just had a fight with two demonic children and his podgy friend rolls up for a chat. Now imagine yourself in a similar situation. Do you really think, for a second, that no matter how many times you've faced down demons you could possibly be so casual about it? It beggars belief. They stand around chatting about the weather, that sort of thing for several minutes before Addy asks what just happened and then go on to discuss demonic banishment as if it's no more traumatising than crossing the street.
Call me old fashioned but I like my movies to have at least a tiny bit of credibility. This had none. It was truly appalling.

whats the problem? i just watched it and liked it, but like every film i have ever watched there are imperfections. who made you the god of movies? i dont need a breakdown scene by scene by you, because my perception of the film is my own.
i think it was brilliantly acted and filmed and i liked the thoughts it provoked.

I must have missed the bit where I claimed to be 'the god of movies', and also the bit where I did a 'scene by scene breakdown' of this one. You are entitled to your opinion but crap is crap whether you agree or not and if you mistake anything in the Sin eater for quality then you're an idiot, plain and simple. Watch a really good film some time and see if you can tell the difference. Bet you can't.

See, this is where I have problems with people on these boards. You're entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine, etc But to call people 'idiots' because they like this movie crosses a line. There's no need for that.

Just because you'd wet your pants in an encounter with a demon doesn't mean Heath Ledger would. Faith can give you a lot of courage. It was pretty much the basis for 'Salem's Lot

You mean a belief in god makes you stupid!?but that doesn't mean that a movie about god has to be so badly made.

That's quite a stretch from what I said, but anyway.

I think all of whom had negative reviews about this movie don't really understand the allegories inside this movie. The movie is mostly about the corruption of Catholic church and the monopoly they had about indulgence trade. Now imagine a non-religic point of view about sin and how could you bypass it? In comes a Sin Eater, a beign that is solely based on indulgence. The Sin Eater has a cost, just like indulgence trade had in it's day.
Mark Addy's character is portrayed like Uriel = Peter, who got the keys to Heaven from Christ to defend it's Kingdom on Earth. A very catholic allegory..
In my point of view, a very good movie.

I think it's even simpler than that. People are supposed to pay for their sins (pretty much in every religion) and by having purged yourself of these sins via the other, you won't pay.
                              Great movie.

I found it very entertaining. And I own the DVD. It's not a good a the Ninth Gate, but is original and Heath is very good throughout. I watch it from time to time as it's a favorite of mine.
