In Bushwhacked, when Simon and River are hiding in space suits on the outside of Serenity, the camera is zooming out on the Feds searching for them inside. One of the Feds lifts up all the plates on the table and checks underneath. Da fuq

It was pretty silly, and I've wondered if they did it intentionally to suggest that Alliance soldiers are not very bright.

They were looking for Simon and River sure, but they no doubt would've loved to have found something, anything on the crew of Serenity.
You can hide drugs under plates. Keys. A blade.
Now that's thoroughness.
