Can't remember if this was explained in this film, but why were people's faces in the photos looked like they were blurred out

I guess the effect is supposed to resemble looking at somebody who is submerged underwater, or perhaps looking at somebody
from
underwater.
Why did the curse do that specifically? Not sure. That's the intended effect though.

I think that was one of the few clues that was never actually explained. I'd imagine it was simply the the curses effect.
However, do keep in mind the faces the bodies are contorted into upon death. Faces of stretched out terror, so it was possibly just foreshadowing their death pose.
