Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Ghost Ship

    Zach-Boardy — 12 years ago(April 30, 2013 03:23 PM)

I've just watched this film, great film by the way but there are things that I don't understand?

    1. Is Ferriman a ghost or alive?
    2. Why did he need the crew to fix his ship? Why didn't he just fix it himself?
If he didn't want the ship and just the gold, why didn't he just take it?
    3. Why does he collect spirits souls for?

Zach-Boardy, I too wondered about 2). I understood him needing to fulfill his quota of souls, hence bringing new salvage crews aboard constantly (and then killing them). So then, was the gold just a diversion? Was it just a means of getting people interested and willing to go out to the ship? I must admit I was confused by that.

          1. a malevolent spirit.
          2. The gold is just a temptation, much like the sirens of Greek legend were there to tempt sailors to their deaths when they'd sail their ships towards them before inadvertently smashing their ships on reefs submerged near the sirens' spot. I don't think he could fix the ship, but he did need it still operate until he reached his 'soul quota'
          3. Biggest, unrevealed mystery.
He never clarifies who he 'works' for. Plus the dead are largely innocents who were killed by the gang so its not as if one could see them logically sentenced to Hell. Yet he's obviously not working for Heaven.

The souls were clearly marked for Hell. At least the souls who had some sins to their discredit were.
I am a little unclear what the date of an unmarked soul like Katie's would have been though.
