Aye. I loved the way they seemed to gradually make us- as viewers- despise Vic (and, bizarrely, have sympathy for Shane)

I think we were made to feel sympathy for all of them apart from Vic. Maybe we didn't feel sorry for Vic as he was the driving force behind the bad stuff they did, the most corrupted and the most unrepentant.

Six Feet Under.
Dawson's Creek, it's not critical but it definitely fit the theme of the show. I'm trying to think but overall I love a finale that is about the show. You want to feel the theme.
I haven't seen The Sopranos ending (not in a full watch) but I did like The Angel ending and it was similar. It makes sense.
Whoever said Justified would probably end well, I agree.
I felt The Shield ended well but I expected a bit more. Some parts seemed weird considering it was a finale but that final scene of Vic was so great. It was a different ending but fit for him. It actually came full circle and I really appreciate that. -

I agree. The Shield had the best finale I've ever seen in a drama. Breaking Bad's best episode was a couple before the finale. The Wire's ending was just ok, though I prefer The Shield over The Wire. Though I think the first three seasons of The Wire are amongst the best I've ever seen. Season 4 and 5 of The Wire were just ok. Marlo wasn't as interesting as Avon in my opinion. Just a homicidal punk I don't think would have lasted as long as he did or ended alive. Say what you want about criminals, the ones that last and move up are the guys that play the political game best like Prop Joe or Avon and Stringer, not homicidal chumps like Marlo.
The Shield's ending. It was amazing. They pulled no punches. Everything was top notch. Best finale ever. -

Like another poster said, the Wire. Bubbles walking up the basement stairs of his sisters house and finally overcoming his demons and drug problems was wonderful

The Spartacus finale is by far my favorite finale of all time
A lot of people would argue that the show is not on par with the rest of the mentioned shows (shield, BB, Six feet under, the wire..) But the finale oh my myAnyone who've seen it can vouch for it, it tied up ALL loose ends perfectly and doesn't fail to cover even small details and themes that were present since the first episodes.
Expectations were high because the ending was already spoilt, by history I mean, we all know history says Spartacus and co all die in the end, and yet it was not predictable, you know where it's all heading but you are on the edge of your seat since the very first minute and can't wait to see how it all plays out, and it played out perfectly, I visited all my usual boards and reviews afterwards and EVERYONE was satisfied.
The whole show is really good, it might not start so strong in the first eppies but it picks up quickly, and it's well done in the sense that there is a beginning, middle and end, no dragging on plots and love triangle and stuff lol.
The Angel finale was so good, obviously I wish it didn't end but considering that they were notified of the cancellation so late, the ending turned out really well
There is always hope! Aragorn

I second Spartacus. The show as a whole isn't close to one of my favourite shows (its crazy consistent after the first few episodes though, and as far as entertainment goes its high octane, just not a lot of substance). The ending however is definitely an unexpected masterclass in how to wrap up a show. While I wouldn't give out too many accolades to the overall show, the finale is amongst the elite. The only shows that I think are better are Shield (the absolute pinnacle of finales), Six Feet Under (the best last 15 minutes ever) and Hannibal (of course thats if it is the ending to this magnificent show).

If you wanna give anime another try and this one doesn't have the quirky humor you hate. "Gungrave" The ending to that left me speechless and emotional as hell. Flawless ending imo.
The other show that had a really amazing ending that I finished recently was Boardwalk Empire.
The Shield does have quite a powerful ending though I agree.
