that when DeNiro and Franko were hugging that the sniper would shoot Franko in the back and the bullet would go through both of them and kill them?
It might have even been a better ending.

Would have been the same thing that happened to John Travolta and his young son in Face/Off, so I would have thought of that and been disappointed. I liked this ending better where the two men who dealt with their crappy histories come together again to make life better for the 3rd generation. Much better ending that way.
