Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Session 9

This is like mystery or something.
At no point did I feel scared. I also really hate the whole cast especially the young stoner kid,I wished we got to see them killed in detail.

Session 9 is a psychological horror movie. In a word, it's unsettling. Scary movies don't rely on gore or ghosts only, although this generation think they do. That scene where Jeff is running and all getting dark is creepy. Well, that's just an example. This movie is clever regardless its genre.

It's a psychological horror movie set inside an abandon mental hospital. Really good setting and story.

Maybe you should try to make a tour of some mental hospital, or try to get into the movie, get to know what it is talking about, then you can speak about not being scared.
This is something that happens everyday around us, these people, mental patients, live horror movies every dayand in some cases, unfortunate victims get a glimpse into their horrific world.
The ghosts, undead, zombies, graves may scare people but that is an irrational fear. This stuff is very real.

Texas Chainsaw Mass. is what I'd recommend if that's what you want to see.

I don't want to see random people killed. I want to see those guys killed because they suck and are stupid etc.
Also watch insidious if you guys wanna actually see a good horror movie.

To go off topic, no wander you didn't like Session 9 if Insidious is your choiceMay I suggest some of the Asian movies, they, though almost exclusively ghost stories, know how to scare people and leave a permanent mark

Naw, I disagree. Asian horror is all child ghosts and creepy women with long, black hair. That stuff got old for me quick. After you've seen a few Japanese ghost horror movies, you think, "Man, this stuff is starting to all look alike."

Haha, that is your recommendation of a good horror movie? Yikes. In a word, that movie was garbage.

You missed one word - Hollywood.
So it would say ''Insidious has been one of the better ghost films nowadays compared to other current HOLLYWOOD films''
Otherwise it doesn't make any sense, since the movie itself is a third class piece of sif compared to all curent horror films.
Hollywood is not the only movie industry out there you know. And what is more, so far horror movies are concerned, Hollywood usually sucks

Yep, gotta agree with vol on this one. Hollywood horror flicks are usually the worst. Blah.

                            Agreed.
Though to be honest, I was genially creep-ed by the film, that was until the ridiculously out of place ending ruined it for me.

Man, I could take Insidious and show you minute by minute what the film is a rip-off of, and where he stole all his monsters and subplots. There is not a second of originality in Insidious.

Yeah, so could I. People think it's original, because they're too young to know the original source material he ripped off.

I wouldn't call it "horror," either.
                                        It's a (tepid) psychological drama.
(There's no hard and fast definition of what's what, of course.)

It was most definitely a horror, along the lines of classics like The Shining, and The Changeling.
