If you want to read the relevant articles from the Life magazine of October 31, 1969 that Tom's dad gives him, it's available here:
    https://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_magazine1.shtml
Other interesting things from the film I noted:

    • The gumball machine on the bar at Tom's house.
    • Framed (samurai/katana) sword on the wall at Tom's house. Maybe his father was a Pacific WWII vet?
    • The intersection where the near accident happened with the red stationwagon. There is a street sign visible, but I couldn't make out the numbers - something close to 22nd, 23rd, 32nd or 33rd streets. That would put the neighborhood at south of I-10, right?
    • The head shop being called a "psycho-delicatessen". Ha!
