I missed a few episodes some time back and never did find out what happened with the whole Mel story arc.
She died then kept periodically cropping up, what was the conclusion?
I seem to remember Boyd getting a necklace in the post

I was really shocked to see her go. . .especially the way she did. I'll miss her. That particular episode was excellent too in spite of how it ended.

I agree it was fantastic, the whole 'crime' was brilliant, in terms of writing and acting, I mean!
I hated the whole addition to Mel's story, and that whole series that contained that storyline was awful!
