Ok, IMDB rating system is totally suspicious, but even so, 7.4 for this terrible movie???
Don t get me wrong, I usually enjoy movies from Australia, in fact, Mad Max is one of my all time favorites (I have seen it about 10 times).
But this movie it totally sucks.
Totally slow, about 30 minutes longer than it should be, no message, no point, no storyline, seemed like a terrible soap opera.
It is classified as mystery here, well it is indeed, it is a mystery how could such a terrible movie be shot in the first place. -

That's your opinionits also possible that the things you mentioned just flew right by you and did not
want
to look for any of it. If you werent looking for a drama, then you should have seen the genre listed first and quit before starting the movie. I do however agree with the fact that its not a 'mystery' in a conventional sense; it's not a whodunnit movie
For people expecting fireworks and explosions..please watch something else, you're not going to find it here. However, if you're looking for a glimpse into what life is like the rest of the time, then this is it! The plot is not something out of the ordinary (it deals mostly with the nature of relationships), but I hold this as a gold standard to gauge other similar films by.
To anyone else reading this thread, don't take OP at face value, see it for yourself and decide whether or not you like it. -

This is one of my favourite movies. Its very much a movie about man-woman relationships and a damn good one at that, in my opinion. I thought the characters were real. I absolutely loved the scenes between Patrick and the psychiatrist. The acting was good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like a mature drama.

Truthfully, this film is largely misrepresented. Less of a true mystery/suspense film as it's often categorized than a drama than happens to contain a mystery. People compare it to other films with multiple, integrated character arcs (Crash, Babel, Short Cuts, etc.) and that's exactly what it is. Truthfully, the only difference is that the climax is teased at the beginning and thus the audience is in "suspense" for most of the film. If one of the climaxes in Crash was built into the open in the same "gun goes off, we don't see what happened" sort of way, it'd be just as much a mystery film as Lantana.

I love movies from Australia as well but I wouldn't touch "Mad Max" with a ten-foot pole. I did enjoy "Lantana" though.
It's not exactly a mystery, I would classify it as an ensemble drama.
