No, realy, didn't he supposed to met her, and didn't show up? He probably didn't show up cause his nose was broken.
It was a weird moment. I can understand why he would cry, though I can't realy put it in words. It has something to do with sudden fright I guess. When I get stressed like that, the moment the thing passes I feel so weak. My legs become soft like spunge, and my hands and voice shake.
Yeah, I deffenetely know the feeling, I can understand why he cried.
Then again, I can get that frighten when the telephone rings.Pardon my weak spelling, English is not my native language.

Stab in the dark, but i think it has something to do with Leon confronting what it means to be a man. Come to think of it, his quote later in the film "what makes a man cry like that" in the bathroom to Pete, and the scene where he breaks down into tears at the end of the film would tie back into this.

It could have triggered former abuse in his life, like from his father. It's a mystery but yes, it shakes Leon up and gets him pondering male vulnerability which finally comes to a break-through after finding the woman's dead body and realizes how much he loves his wife. Whe he hears she loves himTa-Dah!

This character is a lot deeper in the original play, where the Patrick character was originally a woman, Sarah Phelan, who actually was having an affair with John and was taunting Valerie about it. The guy Leon bumps into is Neil, her ex-boyfriend, who we are led to believe drowns himself when Sarah refuses to acknowledge that she's hurt him.
None of which corresponds to the character in the film. I guess the scene was considered too important for Leon's development to be cut and had to be worked into another storyline.

this is the guy that his partner was interested in, i believe. this movie had so many degrees of separation.
Lapaglia explained it that the guy cried, he didn't get it, he held him and it was over. thought man was weak for crying. then, cried himself in the car.

in which he is Neil, crying because he can't let go of a woman who he loved and had hurt him by going away and never coming back. After years apart without an explanation he sees her in a restaurant, and she glances away like she doesn't recognise him. This woman is Sarah, a client of Valerie's, who is also having an affair with Valerie's husband (who is Patrick in the film).
The point of him in the film, having cut the storyline about Sarah, is that Leon can't realise what it means to love someone that much and is bewildered by it. He thinks he loves Sonja, but strays and doesnt really know why or how he loves her. He doesn't understand love. Anyone can recognise the jogger's look of having hit just absolute rock bottom and is heartbroken as hes sobbing. But Leon can't, and believes logically it must have something to do with the collison. Its not until his own breakdown that he finally starts to get what it means to love Sonja like he does.
Another reason is the film's recurring theme of sharing intimate moments or truths with strangers instead of those close to you.
