I haven't heard this dubbed, but I LOVE the sub. Masaya Onosaka who plays Vash could read the phone book and it would be hilarious.
Plus, Unsho Ishizuka - Jet from Cowboy Bebop - shows up as a villain in a two parter. It's weird hearing Jet as a bad guy, lol!
I hear good things about the dub, but I think the acting in the Japanese soundtrack is awesome.

Same here- I have seen the subbed version and loved it! I can't compare to dubs, but the subbed version is definitely worth giving it a go.
There is only a handful of shows with the dub exceeding the original version really, I don't know if Trigun is one of them, so maybe some other people can ay what they think

Someone uploaded a video comparing the sub with the English dub that might help:
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l4GWlFAFKM&feature=colike
          .
Sounds like they did a great job casting Vash in the English dub - Johnny Young Bosch. He sounds really good in this clip, but I still like Masaya Onosaka's Vash better (and I DEFINITELY prefer the other characters Japanese voices too).
It's all personal preference, which one likes better - or which voices one is used to hearing, right?
I'll second your recommendation: the subbed version is definitely worth giving it a go.

Most of the time I do think that whatever you have heard first works better- for example, it took me ages to get used to FMA original cast after seeing half of the series dubbed, despite the original being far superior to the dub in a few cases.
But after seeing the clip- I still prefer the original too. JYB is all right, but I think I have heard his dubs way too many times. I wonder if some of the American voice actors have time to sleep and eat- they seem to be starring in every single thing that becomes dubbed.

I'm the type of prerson who makes a competition between subs and dubs. As for Trigun, I'll have to say: subs. Vash's English voice sounds too squeaky and out-of-place that it almost sounds like he's on ADHD or something. The rest of the English cast was annoying too.
Overall, it's a good show (so far), but I prefer subs.

Everyone is different on this issueI prefer dubs myself. I don't like to "read" my T.V. series. I guess that makes me lazy? Like what Unicorn saidWhatever you watch first will probably be what you get used to. As for Trigun I like the English dubbing. I will admit however that quite a few voices in anime dubs are annoying, and miss the mark.
                Have a nice Day 🙂
