Question About the Bernadelli Insurance Company?

I don't understand why they sent the two girls to search for Vashin the beginning. Why is Vash making the company lose money?

I'd assume because people buy insurance with them, and then they have to pay people loads of money back to cover for the damage.

No. You know how insurance works, right?
You buy insurance for you car lets say. Then it gets damaged and the insurance company pays you money to get it repaired. Or health insurance- you get ill and the company pays you for your treatment.
So people insured goods that got damaged as a result of Vash's actions, and the company had to pay the costs of repairs etc. I suppose they were selling insurance for businesses etc, and had to pay for costs of building being rebuild and so on.

I'd figure anything really. Most companies sell all sorts of insurance- it seems this one was specialising in property/business.

I would have to guess at property insurance because of how much they kept going on about property damage?
