First of all these hospitals are spending money -millions in fact- on things that have nothing to o with health care. One of the near by hospitals in my area has the most gorgeous marble floors. This is something you would see in a five star hotel -it should NOT be in a hospital. They spend millions on things like fountains and landscaping that yes,it looks nice but it has nothing to do with health care. Stop with this fancy crap and spend the money only on what will help cure people.
Second, pharmaceutical companies are gouging people like crazy. They say they need to charge that much for research but it if they would stop spending millions if not billions on advertising they wouldn't have to charge so much. When I was a kid you never saw a commercial for drugs. If you got sick you went to the doctor and he knew what was available and what was needed and prescribed it. We did not have these constant commercials saying"ask your doctor if this is right for you".
Third, doctors these days have decided they should be millionaires. Back in the 60's we had many locals general practitioners and they all had nice houses-nice middle class houses-not one of them lived in a mansion but now that is what we are seeing. One local surgeon I talked to was telling me of his 7000 sq foot home -he has a wife-no children. Why does he need 7000 sq feet? He also told me that he lived back a gated lane because he didn't want people seeing what he has. I wanted so badly to say "Why? are you embarrassed by how much you have you greedy pig."
Fourth, health insurance companies (among most other insurance companies) are the downfall of this country. They make billions in profit per quarter-that's every 3 months -billions.
Fix this crap (Of course how can you fix greed? That is what we are seeing with the doctors-greed)but any way dig into this government-fix this and perhaps working folks will be able to pay their way again -

Katesgram, a few things
About hospitals with the landscaping and fancy floors/fountains- hospitals are in competition with each other. Rope will say " ooh this looks nice/ and may make their decision where to have their tests/surgety/ whatever 4 based on cosmetic reasons you listed . Sad but true.
Same with big pharma.. I agree we are now bombarded with ads AND A WHOLE lot of things are over the counter, but like any company in the free market, they want to turn a profit. I'm mostly referring to medicine for comfort. Some prices for certain 'important medicine, such as certain antibiotics or cardiac meds, need to be available for John q public
The guy with the 7000 square feet home? His money, his choice.
No argument from me on insurance companies
