So retractors will say that if I don't get medical care, I will die. Yes you will. But if you don't have food and water, you will die too. Now do you have the right to go into a grocery store and get free food/drinks? Of course you don't. So how's health care any different? Why should you get free service from someone else?
Health care is not a right. You have a few "Rights" in your life: Right to your freedom. Right to your income. Right to live without government snooping. Right essentially to be left alone.
The government cannot "Manage" anything. What makes you think they are going to manage healthcare? 1 million people, maybe, but I'm sure they will muck that up to. Now multiply that by hundreds of millions. It can't be done. You watch and see how Obamacare is going to cause deaths for thousands of people.
So how do you fix it? I don't have the difinitive answer but I do have some ideas:
Tax breaks. Government will give you tax breaks. You take that and you buy insurance or you put it into an account. If you need simple procedures/walk ins/tests, then take the money out of the account and use it. If you need surgery and more serious medical issues, than your insurance will cover you. The younger you are, the less you'll need to take out. The older you are, the more you'll have to pay insurance. It's the same thing with cars.
But this plan would fail if Americans take their tax breaks and spend it on parties, cars, stereos, drugs, and vacations. If you choose to be stupid with your money, then it's going to fail and we're back at at where we started.
Unfortunately, that's the good ol USA. The people are idiots. They dont want to be free. They won't want to be left alone. They want the government to send them checks, give them free health care, give them free phones, essentially take care of them from craddle to grave. Let the high income earner take care of the low income earners. So essentially, we have millions upon millions of bums, stiffs, lazy Americans that rather get a welfare check, then to find a job.
Health care is just a small piece of what's bad in this country. -

It can indeed be done and it is done in many countries. I am really gratefull that we have it in my country.

Right to your income? Right to live without government snooping? To be left alone? - who decides that those are rights but health care isn't? You sound liek a typical american and one that makes the rest of the world hate you, because they think the rest are like you luckily they are not! -

makes me feel better. i am always mortified when i think about how people in other countries must perceive us and i think "i just hope they do know we arent all like that. they are bad representations of humans in general."

Wow I used to want to live in US but you've made it sound like a $hithole. In UK you have the right to food, water, health care, housing, etc. But according to you in the richest country in the world the government won't even give out food or water I thought you had food stamps and benefits like every other first world country.

Yes, we have food stamps(a.k.a. EBT), welfare, unemployment compensation, and food banks. We also have government subsidized housing units. Yea, we aren't perfect, but for most of our poor, they still have a better standard of living than most of the poor in the 2nd and 3rd world countries. UK still does it better I think though, especially in the way of housing even homeless people. As far as I know, the best we do is soup kitchens and the occasional work program to get them back on their feet.
If you want the best of both the UK and the US though, I'd suggesting moving to Canada. Healthcare is about the same as the UK, but some of the culture is similar to that of the US due to both being neighbors. -

It's debatable. What people have a "right" to is just opinion. You can have your opinion that health care is not a right, while others think it is a right.
I think that if someone is sick they should be helped. We are a vast country we can help our citizens even if they are poor and cannot afford insurance. -

Health Care is a Right. You say you have the right to your income. Well your income pays for the insurance that gives you Health care. In Canada we have the best Health care anywhere . Except for Sweden. Our Health Care is blue cross and they cover everything . You have the right to Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Life should also include Health Care. That should be the one basic thing no body should bitch moan or complain about because in the end we all Need it.
You're complaining because it costs too much. so in the end you're placing your money above lives. Yet you can't take your filthy money with you when you die. There is no richest man in the graveyard .
In the end lives are worth more then Money. I just wish everyone could see that.

No unfortunately here in the USAwhoever has the most toys wins. We place far too much importance on shiny material goods, plastic surgery, huge houses, and yes..money. And sadly, a lot of the time if you are not fortunate enough to afford quality healthcare, well too badyou die. It is what it is.

Government providing healthcare would be ten times worse than the insurance companies. It's not that a problem doesnt exist. It's that government would be a non solution. The only thing less trustworthy than insurance shills is a government beaurocrat. You're trading one beep for another.
He had insurance in this movie. If anything, the movie made itself a pretty good case against national healthcare. It'd have meant more red tape and more people to say No. Everything our government touches that isn't millitary turns to ish. -

I'm politically independent , both major parties have some good ideas but are full of crap on others, and I think anyone should have the right to be operated on, like an expensive operation should be free or at least easily affordable for anyone who needs one.
