    That was so rude of him to ignore him at the party, and then he is flirting with that girl! How rude is that. Through the rest of the movie he was so smart and sweet and mature and a gentleman, but at the party he was a jerk!

          It was the friction between his normal life and his life with her. He really liked her but didn't know how to act with her around his family. They expected him to act a certain way and only saw her as a bad influence on him. He wasn't being a man at that point but they were only high school kids so what else can you expect.

              Yeah, I didn't get this either, she was right to be upset with him, and it seemed out of character.
