What was the thought process behind messing around with the theme tune?

So, I understand that a lot of people didn't like the Theme song to Enterprise. Some hated it because it was different to what the other shows had, some hated it because they find the lyrics and everything about it overly sentimental and hokey. Personally I didn't mind it and after binge watching through season's 1 and 2 over the past few weeks, it has grown on me and I think it suits the show. But I still understand that its not for everyone.
However, I just got to Season 3 and noticed they tried to "update" the song, buy speeding it up slightly and adding a different faster guitar track to it. I think it sounds terrible. But I'm also really confused as to what the thinking behind this change was.
If they were bending to pressure from some of the Trek fans at the time that hated it, then why not change it to an instrumental or orchestral version of the tune Its not as if adding a guitar to a song some people hate is suddenly going to make them like it. And on the flip side of that, you end up annoying the fans that did like the song, by messing around with it. -

You can't polish a turd but you can sprinkle it with glitter.
lol i guess that is pretty much what they tried to do here. Honestly, I think they should have left it, or changed it to an instrumental version, like the version that plays during the credits
