Did they explain how Brandt showed emotion?

Brandt smiled several times during the film. Isn't that an emotional response? Plus, he showed anger when he was taken away. Granted, he was faking, but if he wanted to keep his cover at the moment, why did he show anger?

He shows way too much feelings of happiness, joy and smugness and continues to smile like a smug git even after they have caught Bale and revealed what their plan was. By then there should be absolutely no reason for him to be showing any form of emotion, especially smiling from ear to ear. This is plane wrong and doesn't make any sense at all.
I loved seeing that smug faced git actually lose his face, the thing that showed all his emotion, poetic justice lol
He was not the only one to do this, the new "Father" done so at the end also by smiling, showing concern and a bit of anger also. He also shows fear of death, if you truly had your emotions removed i believe that fear of death would not exist either beaus fear is an emotion so there for fear of death should not exist. He even tries to plea for his life stating "I feel" however this could be a lie to get Bale to feel his now known emotions empathy and not to kill the man.
I have to wonder did they do this as a way of showing that the higher ups were secretly enjoying emotion while everyone else was not allowed it. It would certainly tie in with the theme of dystopia where always the things that the people are not allowed to have and are punished for doing so while the government are always enjoying the things secretly behind closed doors.

everybody shows too much emotion for a movie about no emotion, the director is an idiot.
even "Father" showed anger and arrogance. the idea of the movie was not bad but the directing was really really bad. every person in the movie shows emotion at least once. (Specially arrogance, or doubt) -

This dumb question has been asked to death.
First off, the drug they take in the movie "Prozium" was used to ELIMINATE the extreme measures of emotion. No time in the movie did it claim to eliminate emotion COMPLETELY.
Secondly, Brandt was apart of the elite government group. He CLEARLY wasn't taking that beep
They knew from the get-go that Preston was feeling or on the verge of, that is why the whole scene with the dropping the interval before brushing Preston's teeth thing came up. He did that, then his SON ratted him out to Brandt on the phone about how he dropped his medication and he would have to go refill at the government building.
Brandt and Father and whoever else in the group of elite scripted the medication building to be closed "due to terrorist activities" in order to air out Preston's initiative to cease his dose. When Preston told Brandt when he got in the car that the lines were fine, that is when Brandt 100% knew Preston was feeling because he was LYING out of EXTREME emotion.

Brandt also did mention at one point that he had to stop by the distribution center to "get his dose adjusted." Thereby, his current dosage wasn't having the correct effect, and his emotions seeped out. Or, that was just what he told Preston, as a way of letting this supercop know, that yes, his dose wasn't working quite right, and he had to take care of it, and not that he was feeling in actuality.

To the above poster.
Brandt said that beep to him in order to trick Preston into thinking he was taking the drug. Brandt was NEVER taking the drug because he was privileged enough to be working for the sole power holder (Father/Dupoint).
