Where's the Spaceship?

All I remember about the cartoon was the band travelling in a spaceship.
How come this wasn't a sci-fi film?

You're thinking of a spin-off series, "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space" from 1972.
The original series from 1970 had no such spaceship. Moreover, this film is based directly on the comic book that preceded the TV series to begin with.

If there had been a sequel, maybe Josie and the gang would've gone to outer space. Sadly, box office returns were not good enough to merit a second film. Shame.
