She called the cops the first time he hit her mother, now people react in a variety of ways and her reaction wasn't bad, most of us would have done that, or hope that we do. Now the father is pitiful, he resents her so much afterward. now a real father would have moved on and attempted to have a relationship with his daughter, she wanted one, he should have gotten over the fact. not a good father. She forgave him and wanted to be back in his heart, he said the worst thing ever "I feel like I don't have a daughter anymore," That is just as bad as disowning you own flesh and blood.
There is the scene near the end, where she does a video interview, and she tells of the time she and her brother played "alien invasion" and the dad joined in, perfect for two children, the father is shown tearing up, and that hints that maybe one day he will be a proper father, but until then he is still a pitiful excuse for a fahter, and their are some terrible ones, i.e. abusers, and those who abandoned their children. he is in the top category.
Don't worry, I saw Lord of the Rings. I'm not going to end this 17 times.
