Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Hannibal

I'm most likely the only one.

    1. Don't get me wrong Hannibal is charming. But I couldn't help finding Pazzi more attractive.
    2. Giancarlo Giannini's acting was so good I thought it was on par with Hopkins and at some scenes I would say he even outshines Hopkins. (I'm so gonna get bashed for this)
I rooted for Pazzi to catch Lecter. Ugh, what is wrong with me?

I may be the only one here who agrees with you on both points. I wasn't rooting for Lecter at all. I wanted Hannibal caught by Pazzi as well 😉

              Oh, hes
              extremely
attractive. My favorite scene is when he and his wife are preparing for the opera. His sipping a scotch while watching her dress, all as the music starts to buildso romantic yet very haunting too.

The actor who portrays Pazzi is devastatingly handsome and sexy - An acting legend and a one of the most popular heartthrobs in Italy. So yes, for me, it was easier to say that Pazzi is more attractive than Lecter.
He DID outact Hopkins in some scenes didn't he? I wasn't rooting for his character 100% but I actually would've liked the movie more if their roles were switched - meaning if Giancarlo Giannini played Lecter and Hopkins played Pazzi. THAT would've been my turf. I would so watch and enjoy that.

GIancarlo is amazing - I fell in love with him in this & not just cos my dads italian so biased.
I so wanted him to bail out when he had the money & he would have survived then, I didnt want him to die - he was a good cop up until that point. He underestimated Hanibal - your not going to get bashed - hahaha they are both incredible actors & Anthony Hopkins came from not far away from where i live 🙂 in wales
Nothing is wrong with you - i wanted him to succeed to, he didnt deserve to die like that

Yeah, in a way, I was kinda rooting for him, too. But then the movie would've likely been considerably shorter and far less interesting.

That isn't so surprising. Pazzi was a corrupt policeman, which isn't exactly sympathetic or praiseworthy, but that's still several notches above being a cannibal and serial killer.

I love Pazzi! Yes, it has to do with how Giancarlo Giannini performed it so I did not want him dead but I did not want Pazzi to succeed either. I think he stole every scene he was in. Giancarlo Giannini outperformed Anthony Hopkins, and that is why we can empathise with him. The problem is that at the end Pazzi was helping a monster; obviously Hannibal is also a monster, but at least Hannibal doesn't hurt/sexually abuse children.

Giannini was one of this film's high points. I haven't had a chance to see Giannini in too many other roles, the only one that comes to mind was his part in a mediocre horror film called

Giannini's posture and facial expression in his first scenes as Pazzi say so much about the character. You can tell that Pazzi is a cynical, defeated man who is less than happy with his position in life.
Shortly afterwards, we find out that that Pazzi is henpecked by a demanding, high-maintenance trophy wife and has been taken off a high profile case at work and demoted to investigating lesser cases, exactly in keeping with what the character's demeanor already told us.
Giannini put a lot of pathos into the performance, it's as if he was the only actor in the cast who took seriously what was otherwise over the top and almost campy sequel.

Ohhhhh.. This is surreal. And here I am thinking I was the only one with this opinion.
                                          I agree with EVERYTHING!
I've never really seen anyone steal any scene from the Great Sir Anthony. Until I saw Hannibal. Yes of course, the movie leads us to have sympathy for Pazzi .But in terms of acting ability and impact (and I can't believe I'm saying this) but he far outshines Hopkins in this movie.
There's another post on this board about the Italy scenes being the only interesting part of the movie. I believe the major contributing fact is Giancarlo Giannini. Without him, the movie became a lot less interesting.
Not to mention his gobsmackingly gorgeous looks swayed my all my attraction from Lecter to Pazzi. There just something about him. some magic.
and YES to the Pazzi-catching-Lecter idea. I wish the entire movie would've been Pazzi vs Lecter with Pazzi catching Lecter in the end and finally making love to Allegra - that lucky woman.
@shwacka2000 . Would love that too!
You guys are my new BFFs!!! LOL!!!
