I know it all worked out in the end, but you'd think Barba would have used those selfies as evidence, right?

Yes but the woman's lawyer would say those photos show Trey after he broke into her bedroom while she was asleep. Those selfies show Trey in the bedroom but they don't show how he got there (they don't show if he's the rapist or if the woman is). Barba needed other evidence.
