Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Farscape

now that i can watch the full eps in context without commercial disruption. i feel like i really missed out on this show in the old days when it came out.
so many great themes and commentary, so much imaginative writing, and so much acting that i really like and appreciate. not to mention the puppeteering, which brings the characters to life.
When this came out, SciFi was still a relatively obscure channel, maybe it never got the credit it deserved.
but damn, it really, really holds up well. At least to me. I am truly loving binging this show.
The idea of a living ship, symbiant pilot, multiple coequal female characters, ethical quandries in every ep breaking with so many traditions from Star Trek and Star Wars while keeping so many good aspects of what makes science fiction great..in some ways I feel like our culture has not yet really progressed beyond the groundbreaking stuff in Farscape.
Sopranos? Fine, breaking bad cool. Great shows. But I want, from time to time, to dream of greater possibilities, not always drown myself in the harshness of reality.

      Oh, you said it, buddy.
With the benefit of hindsight, this show is practically a final hurrah for the great art of puppet and animatronic creatures on screen. The process was basically being phased out even while Farscape was just startingbut compare any one of the CG characters in The Phantom Menace to Pilot and Rygel, and it's just not a contest. The Jim Henson Creature Shop has still found the opportunities to do some great work since then, like Where The Wild Things Are, but I don't think anything the've done since has matched the ambition of Farscape.

I watched this show when it was on Syfy Channelin fact, I got satellite so I could watch this show! I really, really loved it, and I still do! I've got it and the miniseries, so I love to watch it all again! I loved the love tension relationship between Chrichton and Aeryn Sun! Loved seeing Aeryn change because of her feelings for Chrichton! But I also loved all the characters and the living ship!
I love all the great commentaries by Ben Browder and Claudia Black on different episodes! He's so funny, and he wrote two episodes! I loved learning trivia from their great commentaries. If you ever get to buy the series, I recommend it for the commentaries! I got the series and the finale miniseries really cheap years ago on Amazon.com in a special huge discount for a flash sale, and The Peacekeeper Wars was on Blu-Ray. Anyway, I really enjoyed how funny Ben Browder is on the commentaries, and he and Claudia talking about her being on Stargate with Michael Shanks while filming Farscape and how her character was like Aeryn Sun was in the beginning!
Farscape was a great show that I still love, obviously, lol!
