Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., revealed key questions he has going into the Senate Judiciary Committee's investigation of the initiation of the Russia probe and the FBI's use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to conduct surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
Graham's investigation comes after the Justice Department Inspector General released a report detailing significant inaccuracies and omissions on the part of the FBI in their FISA warrant applications, misleading the court in the process. A major aspect of the report exposed the degree to which the FBI had relied on the unverified dossier compiled by ex-British spy Christopher Steele as part of opposition research for Hillary Clinton's campaign.

"Now I want to know, what did McCabe and Comey know, when did they know that the dossier was unreliable?" Graham told "Sunday Morning Futures" host Maria Bartiromo, referring to former FBI Director James Comey and former Acting Director Andrew McCabe. Comey has insisted that he was not aware of what was going on at the time.
Graham mentioned that Steele's primary sub-source had told the FBI that the information in the dossier was not credible. The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman expressed doubt that this information did not reach the upper levels of the FBI.
“I find it hard to believe that that did not work its way up to Comey and McCabe," he said.
To get to the bottom of this, Graham said that he wants to begin his investigation by calling the four individuals who met with the sub-source to speak to the committee.
Graham said he also wanted to know who else was aware of the problems with the dossier, and when they found out, particularly acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
“Did Rosenstein know that the dossier had been debunked by the time he signed the warrant? How could he not know?” Graham asked.
Rosenstein oversaw the investigation due to the recusal of then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions. After President Trump fired Comey, it was Rosenstein who appointed Robert Mueller as Special Counsel in charge of the Russia investigation.

“Here’s my question to Rosenstein: if you knew then what you know now, that it was a bunch of garbage, would you have appointed Mueller?” Graham asked.
Graham did not specify exactly when he would call witnesses to testify, but the committee is beginning its probe this week.

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee dramatically boycotted a public hearing Wednesday morning, after accusing Chairman Adam Schiff of ignoring Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse following the release of a scathing Justice Department inspector general report which revealed significant misconduct.
The House Intelligence Subcommittee on Strategic Technologies and Advance Research (STAR) held a hearing on “Emerging Technologies and National Security” on Wednesday. Every GOP member skipped the forum, blasting it as a “publicity” event.

In a letter obtained by Fox News, Reps. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and Chris Stewart, R-Utah, the ranking members of the committee and subcommittee, respectively, joined GOP colleagues in blasting Schiff, D-Calif., for not holding hearings on FISA in the wake of the IG report.
“Under your chairmanship, the House Intelligence Committee has strayed far from its mandate of overseeing the Intelligence Community. In fact, we have gone months at a time in which we’ve hardly held any oversight-related briefings or hearings at all,” they wrote Wednesday.

“During this period of inadequate oversight, numerous critical issues pertinent to this Committee’s jurisdiction were ignored,” they continued, noting that DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz issued his FISA report on Dec. 9 which identified “seventeen serious shortcomings related to the conduct” of the surveillance of former Trump campaign foreign policy aide Carter Page.
The Republicans argued that the committee is “uniquely positioned to consider” the “serious legal and policy questions” that arose from Horowitz’s report.
“The IG Report was followed by the release of a declassified assessment by the Department of Justice acknowledging that at least two of the four FISA applications lacked probable cause,” they continued. “Despite the seriousness of these issues and our clear jurisdiction, you have failed to hold a single briefing or hearing on this matter.”
They added: “Until the Committee prioritizes oversight activities related to urgent and critical concerns, Republican Members cannot support distractions from our core responsibilities.”

“We hope this Committee can move past political investigations and publicity stunts and get back to the important work we traditionally have undertaken on a bipartisan basis,” they concluded.
The letter, penned by Nunes and Stewart, was signed by Republican Reps. Michael Conaway, Michael Turner, Brad Wenstrup, Rick Crawford, Elise Stefanik, Will Hurd, and John Ratcliffe.
Meanwhile, after subcommittee Chairman Jim Himes’, D-Conn., opening statement at the hearing Wednesday, he acknowledged that no Republicans were in attendance.
The Republicans’ letter comes after Horowitz issued a long-awaited report finding that the FBI made repeated errors and misrepresentations before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court as the FBI sought to monitor Page in 2016 and 2017.
Horowitz confirmed that the FBI’s FISA applications to monitor Page heavily relied on the unverified Trump dossier and news reports rooted in dossier author Christopher Steele’s unverified research.
At the time of the report's release, Schiff touted findings that the FBI's initial Russia probe had "sufficient factual basis" and was opened for an "authorized purpose."
“The IG’s investigation did identify issues and errors in the FISA process, including potential misconduct," Schiff acknowledged at the time while stressing that bureau leadership was moving to implement the IG's recommendations.
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) recently released a newly declassified summary of a Justice Department assessment revealing at least two of the FBI’s surveillance applications to monitor Page lacked probable cause.

President Trump teased Democrats following a significant win by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in the Nevada Caucuses and a Washington Post report that Russia was trying to help Sanders win the Democratic primary race.
Sanders' victory Saturday – his second after being narrowly edged out in Iowa – has the Democratic establishment reeling, with former Vice President Joe Biden looking to turn things around quickly after finishing a distant second. Trump offered some free advice.

The Post's story, citing people familiar with the matter, said President Trump and lawmakers on Capitol Hill also have been informed of the Russian attempts. A New York Times report also said that during a House intelligence briefing, lawmakers learned that Russia wanted Trump to win the general election.
Marc Short, chief of staff for Vice President Pence, sharply denied that intelligence pointed to Russia wanting Trump to win.
In an interview with "Fox News Sunday," Short said that news of Russian interference or preferences is the result of "selective" leaking from the House Intelligence Committee led by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham on Friday requested that Attorney General William Barr make several Justice Department and FBI officials available for interviews before the panel related to the bureau’s initial Russia investigation and process to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against former Trump campaign official Carter Page.
In a letter to Barr on Friday, Graham requested interviews with several unnamed case agents and supervisory agents, in addition to Justice Department officials like Bruce Ohr and Dana Boente.
WRAY SAYS FBI CONDUCT SURROUNDING CARTER PAGE FISA WARRANT 'UNACCEPTABLE' AND 'CANNOT BE REPEATED'
“As you are aware, the Committee is continuing to investigate matters related to the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s handling of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, including applications for, and renewals of, a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant on Carter Page,” Graham wrote.
"Crossfire Hurricane" was the name for the FBI's initial Russia investigation.
“In order to further the Committee’s oversight of this important matter, I request that you make the following employees available as soon as possible for transcribed interviews,” Graham continued, adding that his committee will also be “directly contacting former Department employees to schedule transcribed interviews and will advise the Department when those interviews are scheduled so that Department counsel may attend.”
It is unclear, at this point, which former DOJ and FBI officials Graham and his panel could contact for interviews.
Graham vowed to probe alleged abuses of FISA last year, following the release of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia investigation.
The continuation of Graham’s investigation comes after Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released the findings from his FISA review. Horowitz found specific evidence of oversights and errors by several top FBI employees as they sought to obtain a warrant to surveil Page under the FISA statute.

After his term as California governor ended and before he became president, Ronald Reagan recorded daily commentaries broadcast by about 350 radio stations and heard by tens of millions of Americans. When I listened to a collection of these broadcasts recently, it sounded like Reagan was warning us about the socialism preached by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
With Sanders’ victory in the Nevada Democratic caucuses Saturday – making him the current front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination – the words of warning from Reagan struck me as something more Americans ought to be aware of today.
Throughout his nearly five-year radio run, Reagan preached that the promises of socialism were lies. He noted that we often grow so accustomed to them, however, that we lose the fear of the ideology itself.

In one of his commentaries, Reagan quotes a line he once spoke in a play highlighting the far-left ideology’s danger: “I never knew what freedom was until I saw you lose yours.”
In another commentary, the future president tells of a young man debating a socialist who criticized anyone wanting to pursue the finer things in life.
“Socialists ignore the side of man that is of the spirit,” Reagan said back in 1975. “They can provide shelter, fill your belly with bacon and beans, treat you when you’re ill – all the things that are guaranteed to a prisoner or a slave. But they don’t understand we also dream, yes, even of owning a yacht.”

History has always had a way of repeating itself, partly due to ignorance but also attributable to human nature. When German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published “The Communist Manifesto” in 1848 it appealed to idealists, painting a utopian vision of a more just world where poverty was nonexistent and everyone worked together in peace and harmony.
One popular English translation “The Communist Manifesto” ends with the words: “Workers of the world, unite. You have nothing to lose but your chains!” It almost sounds like a Sanders slogan.
But if we should have learned anything since communism went from a theory to the foundation of a tyrannical government following the Russian Revolution in 1917, it is that communism and its cousin socialism did not create utopias. Instead, they brought nightmares to life.
By any objective standard, communism and socialism have destroyed economies, left people impoverished and sometimes starving, and brought about brutal dictatorships that deprived people of the precious freedoms guaranteed to Americans under our Bill of Rights – including freedom of speech, of the press and of religion.
The old saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely has proven true again and again around the world wherever Marxism has been embraced.
That’s why Reagan’s words are as wise today as when he recorded them – many years before some of the most ardent supporters of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign were even born.
We’d be wise to heed Reagan’s warnings and take his advice.
Back when Reagan was broadcasting his commentaries, communist regimes were officially atheist. They were dedicated to destroying religion, which they saw as an ideology competing with Marxism.
Marx wrote in 1843: “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.”
To be fair, Bernie Sanders has expressed no ambition to destroy religion. But many of the left want to ban all expressions of faith in the public square.
To these folks, Reagan lamented: “We’ve gone so far that it almost seems a rule originally designed to guard against violation of the Constitution has become an aggressive campaign against religion itself. And isn’t that the very thing we set out to guard against?”
Reagan also warned against Big Government becoming a nanny state, trying to run our lives even with the best of intentions.
When news broke of a school trying to ban hot dogs and root beer and force cafeterias to carry more healthful fare, Reagan said: “Do-gooders, busy-bodies and bureaucrats need to learn that people don’t like to be told what to do. Kids are kids and sometimes persuasion is better than dictatorship.”
Sounds like Regan was talking about former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg – competing with Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination – and Bloomberg’s infamous campaign against large cups of soda being sold, doesn’t it?
Reagan was born in 1911 – long before television. He grew up with radio and loved the medium and considered it far more intimate and a better fit for him than TV.

In comments made on the South Lawn of the White House Sunday, President Trump told reporters that he thinks Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will be the Democratic presidential nominee unless the Democratic Party bends the rules to block his nomination.
Many Sanders supporters felt the Democratic establishment favored the party's 2016 nominee, Hillary Clinton, during that year's primary contest and are concerned something similar could happen in 2020 to tip the scales against the democratic socialist senator. Sanders, however, has jumped out to be the clear front-runner, winning New Hampshire and Nevada while still competing with former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg for first in Iowa's yet-to-be-decided caucuses.
"I think it was a great win for Bernie Sanders. We'll see how it all turns out. They've got a lot of winning to do. I hope they're treated fairly," Trump said.

This also comes as Buttigieg and former Vice President Joe Biden are fighting over the mantle of the moderate, electable alternative heading into the South Carolina primary. Biden holds a thin lead there over Sanders, and a win in what has been called his firewall state could breathe new life into the flagging Biden effort.

Six people were killed – including three children – after a head-on collision on Interstate 95 in Georgia early Sunday, according to officials.
The Georgia State Patrol told Fox 5 the deadly crash happened around 2:05 a.m. near the Exit 76 on-ramp to the interstate in Liberty County, located about 30 miles south of Savannah.
Officials said a Lexus RX350 with Florida license plates driven by 77-year-old man had been traveling in the wrong direction in the left lane on the interstate. The Lexus then struck head-on a Nissan Rogue with an adult female driver, adult passenger, and three children inside.

All six people involved in the crash were killed, officials told Fox 5. Images from the scene showed the front of both vehicles crumpled where they came to a stop on the interstate.

Officials from the Georgia State Patrol said that everyone had their seatbelts on and the 77-year-old driver was not impaired at the time of the crash, according to Fox 5.
BUS ON NEW JERSEY HIGHWAY BURSTS INTO FLAMES
While authorities are not releasing the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin, they did say the Nissan Rogue did have Virginia tags.
The crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. in Liberty County, Ga. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.

Deputies investigating the crash said the children are believed to be between the ages of 3 and 10 years old, WSAV-TV reported.

Officials from the Georgia State Patrol said that everyone had their seatbelts on and the 77-year-old driver was not impaired at the time of the crash, according to Fox 5.

While authorities are not releasing the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin, they did say the Nissan Rogue did have Virginia tags.
The crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. in Liberty County, Ga. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.

Deputies investigating the crash said the children are believed to be between the ages of 3 and 10 years old, WSAV-TV reported.

The accident closed down all northbound lanes of the interstate until around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. The crash remains under investigation.

Two people were killed and dozens were injured Wednesday after whiteout conditions along a highway in Canada trigged a massive pileup involving 200 vehicles south of Montreal.
Transport Minister Francois Bonnardel told reporters in Quebec City the pileup took place in an area where heavy winds come off the river, creating sudden blizzard-like conditions. Two snow removal operations took place in the area in the hour before the incident, but strong winds blew snow back into the roadway from the nearby river.
“People were driving, there were strong winds … and, suddenly, you couldn't see anything,'' Bonnardel told reporters. "And then, well, the pileup started."

Spencer Jacob told CTV an ambulance responding to an initial crash was hit by an ambulance at "full speed" before a chain-reaction crash was underway.
"Another car came down and just flew into the back of the ambulance. That blocked up two lanes and then another 18-wheeler came and just slammed into that car," Jacob said. "That's when we were like 'this is bad,' and we need to get out of the car. Our doors were pressed against the snow so we had to get out of the windows and run up onto the snowbank and we were just watching."

The group said they tried to wave to other cars to slow down but "they couldn't see" due to the conditions. The group continued to watch cars slam into each other as the crashes mounted to cover a half-mile-long stretch of highway.
"It was straight out of a movie," Jack Sandberg told CTV News.

"We know that these people were involved in a collision with a tank truck, which made the rescue operation more difficult for first responders," Tremblay said Wednesday.
A total of 60 were injured in the crash, including 20 in serious condition, CBC News reported.

About 150 people were taken by bus to a nearby community center for treatment and to be picked up.

Tremblay said police crash experts will study what caused the pileup.
A school bus was also involved in the pileup, but none of the high school students on board were injured, said Andree Laforest, the province's acting public security minister.
